Six Titans Earn Big West All-Conference Honors

FULLERTON, Calif. – The Fullerton men's soccer program racked up seven Big West All-Conference honors Tuesday headlined by Ross McPhie earning Co-Midfielder of the Year.

Along with earning Co-Midfielder of the Year, McPhie also earned a spot on the Big West All-Conference First Team along with Samuel Goni and Corentin Ohmann. Diego Sanchez earned Second-Team All-Conference honors. Paul-Andre Guerin was given All-Conference Honorable Mention while Irving Arvizu was placed on the All-Conference Freshman Team.

"I'm very proud of the guys that made the teams, it's a recognition we feel they've deserved all season," said Head Coach George Kuntz. "It's a great accomplishment for them and it's a testament to where we're trying to go."

McPhie was second on the team through the regular season with seven goals, ranking him tied for seventh overall in the Big West. The junior greatly improved on his goal totals from the 2016 season when he had three goals throughout the year. McPhie also added three assists to give him 17 points.

After missing the entire 2016 season, Goni returned to the pitch in form to lead the Titans' offense with eight goals this season, which is ranked tied for second in the conference in total goals. Goni scored Fullerton's first goal of the season against Wofford in double-overtime to give the Titans a 1-0 victory. The Spaniard continuously delivered for his team when they needed him most in conference play.

Goni scored six of his eight goals in conference play, including earning five points in Fullerton's 3-1 win over UC Irvine, scoring two goals while adding an assist to have a part in all three of the team's goals. The redshirt junior then earned the Titans a 1-1 draw against UC Riverside when he scored in the 89th minute to tie the game and send it to overtime.

Ohlmann has been the Titans defensive anchor for the past two season, playing in 39 of the team's 42 matches. Ohlmann a tenacious Fullerton defense that gave up the second fewest goals this season (25) along with second fewest goals allowed average (1.26). In addition to his stifling defense, Ohlmann recorded two assists this season.

Senior Diego Sanchez earned Second Team All-Conference Honors after his stellar play on both sides of the field for the Titans. Sanchez leads Fullerton this season with five assists, slotting him fifth in the Big West. The midfielder also added two goals to his assist total, including his impressive game-winning goal over CSUN. As important Sanchez is to the Titans scoring production, he is equally as important to the teams suffocating defense.

Goalkeeper Paul-Andre Guerin took home All-Conference Honorable Mention following his strong season in net for the Titans. Guerin leads the Big West in goal allowed this season, giving up just 18 goals this season. Guerin is also ranked second in goals allowed average at 1.23 per game.

Irving Arvizu earned a spot on the Big West All-Freshman Team behind his defensive presence for the Titans in his first campaign. Arvizu got his first start Sept. 15 against Vermont following a handful of injuries to Fullerton's defense. The freshman, who had always played in the midfielder prior to his first start, continued to impress coaches with his play on the backline to earn starts in the next 11 consecutive games.

The Co-South Division Champions now look to regain the Big West Conference Title as they begin the conference tournament Saturday at 7 p.m. at Titan Stadium. Fullerton will host the winner of UC Santa Barbara and UC Riverside who will play Wednesday night.
