FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton men's soccer forward and senior Alex Heilmann was added to the latest list of players eligible for selection in the 2017 Major League Soccer SuperDraft on Friday at the LA Convention Center, the league announced yesterday.
The draft includes a majority of prospects who are seniors from the collegiate level, with Generation Adidas players and non-collegiate international players eligible to be selected as well. MLS clubs are allowed to nominate players for the Draft-Eligible List, as only players from that list may be selected.
Heilmann made quite the impression in his final season as a Titan by netting a Big West leading 12 goals in his first collegiate season playing forward. The senior was first class when getting possession of the ball inside the box as he put 20-of-35 shots on goal to finish the year with a shot on goal percentage of 57.1 percent, which was second-highest among top-10 goal scorers in the conference.
The La Habra, Calif., native's strong season offensively put him at eighth in program history for most goals scored in a single season. Other accolades Heilmann earned included All-Big West First Team honors, Big West Offensive Athlete of the Week (twice) and College Soccer News' National Player of the Week (10/24).
The most prestigious postseason honor Heilmann received was being named to the NSCAA All-Far West Region Third Team back in early December. He became the first Titan player to earn a spot on the NSCAA All-Far West Team since 2014.
Rounds one and two of the 2017 MLS SuperDraft will take place at the LA Convention Center on Friday and can be seen live on mlssoccer.com at 12 p.m. PT. Fans interested in attending the first two rounds of the draft will be admitted free of charge. The final two rounds of the draft will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. PT via a conference call.
