FULLERTON, Calif. –
The Cal State Fullerton men's soccer squad gave up a goal in the 23rd minute to UC Davis and couldn't bounce back as the Titans fell to the Aggies at Aggie Soccer Field on Saturday, 3-0.

"Today we did not play with the energy needed to change the game at critical moments," coach George Kuntz said. "We also had chances to execute and will work towards getting better at the things we learned from the weekend."

With the defeat, Fullerton (5-7-0, 1-3-0) collects its third-straight conference loss after falling to UC Santa Barbara and Sacramento State in the previous two matches.

UC Davis (6-5-2, 2-2-0) came out attacking the Titan defense early as they had two shots in the first 10 minutes while keeping the pressure on the CSUF backline.

Following the early surge, Nicolo D'Amato had a couple long-distance tries for Fullerton but neither were threatening as both shots sailed high of the crossbar.

In the 23rd minute, Aggie Greg Salazar made a deep pass to Kristian Heptner about 10-yards from the top of the box. Heptener made a couple moves to create some space and put a strong strike that bounced past the diving Paul-Andre Guerin to give UC Davis a 1-0 edge.

Late in the first half, Titan Oscar Flores came within inches of knotting the score. After a few touches from both teams in the box, Flores put a shot on goal the hit right under the crossbar and bounced on the outside of the goal to keep the score at 1-0 entering the half.

In the second, Fullerton's Jacob Perez found some room along the right side of the box and had a good angle on goal. Unfortunately, Perez' shot would hit the right post and roll out for a UC Davis goal kick.

With some momentum back on their side, the Titans were looking for an equalizer but the Aggies sealed the match in the 71st minute as they scored two goals within 30 seconds.

Miguel Acevedo made the scored his first goal of the season to make it 2-0 and Kyle Higgins scored just 27 seconds later with a goal to put the final score at 3-0.

Up next for the Fullerton men's soccer squad is a road battle with Cal State Northridge on Wednesday at 7 p.m. PT.
