Titans Drop Season Opener to Ohio State, 2-0

COLUMBUS, Ohio. – The Cal State Fullerton men's soccer team dropped their season opener, 2-0, to Ohio State at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on Friday night.

The Titans (0-1-0) fought through the majority of the game with only ten players after a red card was shown to freshman Ross McPhie in the 24th minute. Shortly after, the Buckeyes struck first with a goal from Kyle Culbertson to put OSU ahead 1-0.

Fullerton attacked hard throughout the first half outshooting the Buckeyes 6-4 yet Ohio State's Chris Froschauer managed two key saves to hold the Titans.

Ohio State managed to seal the deal in the second half after finding the net on a penalty kick from Liam Doyle in the 73rd minute to put them ahead 2-0.

Fullerton returns to action to close out the Bert & Iris Wolstein Classic on Sunday morning as they take on Wright State at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium at 9 a.m. PST.

NOTES: Titans haven't won a season opener since 2009… The two teams totaled almost 40 fouls throughout the night… Five Titans made their first career starts in a Fullerton uniform – Oscar Torres, Brandon West, Carlos Troncoso, Ross McPhie and Ricardo Covarrubias… OSU was issued four yellow cards to Fullerton's one… Ohio State now leads the series 4-1-0.
