FULLERTON, Calif. - After helping lead the Cal State Fullerton men's soccer team to the Big West Tournament Championship and an appearance in the NCAA tournament for the eighth time in school history, Carlos Aguilar has been promoted to the role of full-time assistant coach, head coach George Kuntz announced on Friday.

"Most importantly I just want to give a big thanks to George Kuntz, Titan athletics, and my family for all the support throughout the years," Aguilar said.  "I'm looking forward to this new challenge and new opportunity in my career. I'm grateful or it, and I'm ready for the challenges that it's going to bring.  I'm excited, very excited."

In 2014, his first season with the program, the Titans sprinted to the finish line with a record of 10-8-6 overall and 3-0 in Big West Tournament play.  Fullerton earned its first winning season since 2001, and a Big West Conference Tournament title for the first time in school history.

Aguilar is no stranger to success. Prior to this past groundbreaking year at Fullerton, he completed three seasons with UC Irvine, helping lead the Anteaters to the 2013 NCAA Sweet 16 tournament and a 15-5-3 record, the second-highest win total in program history.

Before breaking into the coaching ranks at UC Irvine, Aguilar played professionally in the USSF D-2 with the Rochester Rhinos, making his professional debut on April 10, 2010 against Miami FC.

"Carlos Aguilar is a exceptionally talented young coach that was my first hire at Cal State Fullerton," Kuntz said.  "He is fantastic with the student-athletes, and his passion and understanding the nuances of the game are beyond his years.  He brings a family first, humble, yet confident element to the program. I've known him, and trusted him, since coaching him in college and he became a catalyst for our success in my opinion.  Everywhere he has gone, he's "spun gold." He has that in him; he's a winner and a tremendous addition and can now become more intricately involved in our dynamic program.  Carlos has a great future in the game and we are proud to have him here as a part of the Titan family."

The Titans open up their Big West Tournament title defense with an exhibition game at Titan Stadium against Cal on Aug. 16 at 7:00 p.m.
