FULLERTON, Calif. -- Cal State Fullerton junior goalkeeper Bryan Escalante was named the Big West Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday afternoon after helping the Titans pick up three key points in a 1-0 shutout of UC Irvine over the weekend.

Making his third-straight start, and only his fifth appearance of the year, Escalante tallied his first career shutout against the Anteaters, facing 15 shots and turning away all six attempts on frame to preserve the victory. The six saves were just one shy of his career high of seven set against UC Irvine back in 2010 when he helped Fullerton shut down the Anteaters and earn a Big West Conference Tournament Semifinal win.

Since making his first start of the season against nationally ranked Cal State Northridge on Oct. 17, Escalante has collected three consecutive victories between the pipes, posting a 1.87 goals against average and 12 saves while facing a total of 50 shots. He has been the beneficiary of a potent Titans' offense that has scored nine goals over that span to solidify the team's hold on the second and final playoff spot in the South Division.

Fullerton closes out the regular season with a pair of matches this week looking to complete a pair of season sweeps, visiting Cal State Northridge on Wednesday night (Oct. 31) before hosting UC Riverside on Saturday (Nov. 3). Both matches will kick-off at 7 p.m. from their respective sites.
