LIHUE, HI. – Cal State Fullerton finished in first place with a score of 12-over par 876 at the Big West Conference Tournament and booked it's ticket to the NCAA Division I men's regionals for the first time since 2014.
The Titans started the final round in fourth place and jumped to the top of the leaderboard after dominating the final round with a score of 4-under par 284. The Titans were the only team to finish the third round under par. Fullerton was in seventh place out of eight teams after the first round but were able to keep their composure to come all the way back to win the championship.
Three Titans finished in the top 20 individually as senior Matt Wilson continued his hot streak from the last month, finishing in first place at 5-under par 211. Wilson shot a 75 in round one, a 68 in the second round, and another 68 in the final round of the tournament. It is Wilson's first career tournament victory and he becomes the first Titan to win the Big West Championship individually.
Derek Castillo finished the tournament tied for 10th place, posting an overall score of 5-over par 221. He shot scores of 74, 79, and 68 over the two days. Castillo jumped up 16 spots on the final day with his four under par score.
Dalton Daniel finished in a tie for 17th place. He finished with a score of 8-over par 224 (79, 75, 70). The sophomore was tied for 31st place heading into the third and final round but came through when it mattered most with a 2-under par.
Michael Sharkey and Jack Dyer both finished tied for 27th place for the tournament with a score of 12-over par 228. Both shot a 78 in round three.
The Titans will find out where they are heading during the selection show that is set for May 1, at 6 p.m. PT. Fans can tune into the Golf Channel to see where the Titans will be competing.
