NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. – After holding the top spot at the conclusion of round two, Cal State Fullerton men's golf held onto their lead to win the UCI Anteater Invitational Tuesday at the Big Canyon Country Club.
The Titans shot 3-over par 291 on the final day of the tournament, finishing with a final score of 1-under par 863. The Titans dominated the field and were the only team to finish with a score under par.
Grand Canyon finished in second place shooting 10-over par 874 for the tournament. Grand Canyon's Filip Lundell took first place individually, shooting an 8-under par 208.
Derek Castillo led the Titans individually in round three, shooting 2-under par 70 on the day. Castillo finished the tournament at 3-under par 213 to lock up third place individually. It is Castillo's fifth top-10 finish of his Titans career.
Dalton Daniel shot 1-over par 73 in the final round, leaving him tied for fifth individually with a score of even par 216. For Daniel, it marks his third top-10 finish in five tournaments so far this season.
Matt Wilson also finished the tournament in the top 10, with a tenth place tie at 2-over par 218. Wilson shot a 2-over par 74 in round one but bounced back in round two with a 3-under par 69 to bring him within striking distance in round three.
This is the first time in the last two season the Titans have had three players finish in the top 10.
Just behind the top three players was Michael Sharkey who finished in 13th place with a score of 3-over par 213. Jack Dyer rounded out the team with a tied for 17th place finish after shooting 6-over par 222. First the first time this season all five Titans finished in the top-20.
Jess Scheller, Matt Rafter, CJ Coleman and Blake Petchel all competed as individuals in the tournament. Scheller finished the tournament tied for 34th with a final score of 14-over par 230.
Rafter placed tied for 43rd at 17-over par 233 while CJ Coleman finished tied for 47th at 18-over par 234. Blake Petchel shot a 22-over par 238 to finish the tournament in 57th.
Fullerton is back in action February 16, 17, and 18 at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate tournament in Palm Desert.
