SIMI VALLEY, Calif. – Sophomore Matt Wilson currently sits in top-10 position after the first 36 holes at the Bill Cullum Invitational hosted by CSUN at the Wood Ranch Golf Course in Simi Valley, Calif.

Wilson, one of 10 Cal State Fullerton golfers competing at the event, carded a 4-under 140 after the first two rounds. He sat at 1-under after the first 18 holes but improved his standing after finishing up with a 3-under 69 in the second. Wilson recorded 10 birdies on the day and managed to limit his bogeys in the second round to place him in a tie for eighth place going into the final round.

Wilson and the rest of the 96-player field trail Jonah Texeira of USC, who is one of 21 golfers competing as individuals. Texeira posted a 10-under 134 through 36 holes and holds a one stroke lead over Willy Moffly of UC Santa Barbara and defending champion Fidel Concepcion of Southern Utah.

One of five Fullerton golfers competing as individuals, CJ Coleman posted the second best score for a Titans golfer on Monday in his first career tournament. The sophomore is currently tied for 13th overall after posting a 3-under 141 through 36 holes. He carded a 1-under 71 in the opening round and improved on that in the second round with a 2-under 70.

As for the Titans as a team, Fullerton combined to post a 4-over 580 on Monday and is currently tied for ninth place in the 15 team field. UC Santa Barbara stormed out in front with a 22-under 554 on Monday and hold a 14-stroke lead over second-place UC Irvine. Utah State posted a 7-under 569 and sits in third after the first day. No other team shot under par on Monday.

Mark Cobey posted the second-best team score for Fullerton on Monday as he headed into the clubhouse with a 1-under 143. He is currently tied for 23rd. Freshman Michael Sharkey is tied for 39th after 36 holes with a 2-over 146 and Ty Stites rounded out the team scoring for the Titans, posting a 7-over 151. Matt Murphy was the fifth Titans golfer and carded a 153 on day one.

Other Titans competing at the Bill Cullum Invitational included Martin Manalo (+2, t39th), Jack Ireland (+7, t69th), Dario Hamada (+13, 86th), and Davis Holman (+14, 87th).

The Titans return to the links Tuesday for the final 18 holes. A shotgun start is set for 8 a.m.
