Men's Golf Earns All-Big West Honors

FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton men's golf head coach Jason Drotter was named Coach of the Year as the 2013 All-Big West Men's Golf All-Conference Awards were announced by the league Wednesday afternoon.

In only its fourth year of competition after the golf program was reinstated in 2009, Drotter helped guide his team to its first conference championship in school history. The Titans and Pacific shared the Big West title after both teams shot an 887 at the Soboba Springs Country Club in San Jacinto, Calif., April 28-30.

Senior Dakota Duerr and junior Mark Anguiano were also both voted to the All-Big West First Team. Duerr, a key producer for the Titans, competed in all 11 tournaments this season. The Villa Park, Calif., native finished as the best Fullerton golfer in five tournaments this season and had a 73.09 scoring average, which ranked second amongst the Titans. He was also was named the 2012-13 Cal State Fullerton Male Scholar Athlete earlier this year.

Anguiano, who was also named to the first team last season, had his best performance of the season when he finished fifth at the Winchester Classic in Meadows Vista, Calif., after shooting 1-under par 215. In 11 tournaments this season, Anguiano had a 73.03 scoring average, which was a team best for Fullerton.

Sophomore Ryan Tetrault was named to the All-Big West Second Team and junior Corey Gard was named All-Big West Honorable Mention. Tetrault finished fourth at the Big West Championships and Gard tied for first, but eventually lost the individual title in a two-hole playoff to Pacific's Eric Sugimoto.

UC Santa Barbara's Glen Scher collected 2013 Big West Men's Golf Player of the Year honors while Daniel Chian received the 2013 Big West Men's Golf Freshman of the Year award.
