FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton men's basketball has an exciting weekend ahead at Titan Gym as it squares off against La Verne on Saturday at 6 p.m. PT in an exhibition game and then hosts the Center Court Tip-Off Dinner on Sunday at 3 p.m.
The Titans had a successful Blue/Orange Scrimmage on Oct. 29 and finally get the chance to play against somebody other than themselves on Sunday.
While this game does not count against the Titans' record, they are 4-0 all-time against La Verne in regular season games. The last time these two teams squared off was on December 17, 2011 and CSF won 86-44. The Leopards lost their top five scorers from the 2016-17 season. Senior guard Connor Head is the top returning scorer and he averaged 6.7 points per game last year.
Head coach Dedrique Taylor enters his fifth year at the helm of the Cal State Fullerton Titans men's basketball program. Taylor and the team enter the 2017-18 season returning nine lettermen, including three starters from last year's squad that went 17-15 overall, 10-6 in Big West and earned a postseason berth.
The Titans took third place in the league standings for the 2016-17 regular season, played in the semifinals of the Big West Tournament and hosted a first round game in the CollegeInsider.com Tournament. It marked the team's first postseason appearance since 2012. Taylor returns the last two Big West Freshman of the Year honorees in junior guard Khalil Ahmad and sophomore forward Jackson Rowe.
CSF opens up the regular season on the road at No. 11/10 USC on Nov. 10. The game at the Galen Center tips off at 7 p.m. PT and will be broadcast live on the Pac-12 Network.
