LAST TIME OUT - LONG BEACH STATE 76, CAL STATE FULLERTON 65

Cal State Fullerton rallied from a 10-point deficit to tie the game but Long Beach State pulled away late and came away with a 76-65 Big West Conference victory over the Titans Thursday night at the Walter Pyramid in Long Beach, Calif. Kyle Allman led the Titans (8-11, 2-4) with 15 points on 5-for-12 shooting while Khalil Ahmad and Jackson Rowe added 11 apiece. Justin Bibbins led the 49ers (9-14, 4-3) with 26 points on 7-for-13 shooting. Fullerton outrebounded Long Beach State 38-34 including a 19-7 edge on the offensive glass but the Titans shot just 35.4 percent from the field while the 49ers hit 52.2 percent of their shots including a 45 percent clip (9-for-20) from beyond the arc. The 49ers also protected the rim all night, registering 10 blocked shots on the night with four coming from Roschon Prince and three from Mason Riggins.

TRUST THE PROCESS

Sophomore guard Kyle Allman led the Titans in scoring for the second time this season on Thursday night at Long Beach State. His 15-point effort was the ninth double-digit scoring effort of the season, more than double his output from last season when he posted double figures four times as a freshman. This year, Allman has improved his numbers in all categories. He's averaging 26.8 minutes a game and has made 14 starts in his 19 games played. He's shooting a shade under 40 percent from the field after shooting 36.5 percent as a freshman. He has improved both his free throw percentage and 3-point percentage and is averaging 9.2 points a game after averaging 5.1 last year.

TURN AWAY FROM THE SKID

Fullerton is in the midst of a three-game losing streak after Thursday's setback at Long Beach State. During the streak, the Titans are averaging 65 points a game, more than 10 points below their season average (75.3 ppg). They are also surrendering an average of 78 points a game in the three losses. The Titans are shooting 37.2 percent from the field and just 27.1 percent from distance while allowing opponents to shoot 54.9 percent from the field and 40.9 percent from beyond the arc. Despite forcing 47 turnovers in the three-game span, the Titans have coughed it up 51 times while tallying 31 assists, compared to 45 assists for their opponents.

NIGHT AND DAY

The Titans numbers in wins and losses are polar opposites. In the eight wins this year, Fullerton is averaging 83.2 points a game and shooting 49.5 percent from the field with a 36.8 percent clip from beyond the arc. They have outrebounded opponents 354 (44.2 rpg) to 261 (32.6 rpg) in wins. In the team's losses, the Titans are averaging just 69.5 points a game while surrendering 80.8 per contest. Fullerton is shooting 42.3 percent and just 29.1 percent from 3-point range in losses this season while allowing opponents to shoot at a 46.7 percent clip and 40.1 percent from distance. The Titans have also been outrebounded 402 (36.5 rpg) to 373 (33.9 rpg) in those games.

COGGINS LEADING TITANS OFFENSIVELY

Senior Tre' Coggins continues to lead Cal State Fullerton offensively. He is currently the leading scorer in the conference at 17.2 points a game. He's led the team in scoring 11 times this season and 23 times in his two years at Fullerton. Coggins is also first in the conference and 56th in the country in free-throw percentage at 86 percent. His 3.06 3-pointers per game average is tops in the conference and 26th in the nation.

ROWING ALONG

Forward Jackson Rowe continues to excel for the Titans in his first season at Fullerton. He posted his 11th double-digit scoring output on Thursday night at Long Beach State, scoring all 11 of his points in the second half. He also grabbed six rebounds and shot 4-for-9 from the field. Rowe continues to lead the team in rebounding at 6.5 per game, which ranks third in the Big West. He is the only true freshman ranked in the top five in rebounding. Rowe has also started every game for Fullerton this season and is second on the team with 11 double-digit scoring games. Rowe is also leading the Titans and ranks second in the conference in field goal percentage (56.6%).

THE STRIPE AND THE DISHES

The fate of the Titans has depended largely on their output at the free throw line and setting the table. Fullerton is currently 1-7 when it makes fewer free throws than its opponents and 2-8 when the Titans have fewer assists than their opponents.

THREE AND OUT

Thursday night's loss marked the fifth time the Titans have lost a game when three or more players tally double figures and the first since Fullerton dropped a 102-96 decision in overtime at Omaha on Dec. 18. Cal State Fullerton is currently 8-5 when three or more players tally double figures in scoring and winless (0-6) when two or fewer players score double digits.

TITANS TEAM RANKS

The Titans are second in the Big West Conference in blocks (3.9) and total blocks (75), and defensive rebounds per game (27.68) and ranked third in overall rebounding at 38.26 a game. Additionally, Fullerton is ranked second in the Big West in scoring average (75.3 ppg), third in field goal percentage (45.4%), and second in field goal percentage defense (42.5%).

PAINT BY NUMBERS

Cal State Fullerton has outscored its opponents 628-491 in the paint this season. UC Irvine outscored Fullerton, 48-30, on the inside on Jan. 14 but marked just the third time in 19 games that The Titans have been outscored in the paint and first since Nov. 25 against Jacksonville State.
