Davon Clare subbed into the game. The Titans, facing defending Big West Conference champion Hawaii in Titan Gym last Thursday, swung the ball around as Clare fought through arms and legs for position down low.

Point guard Lionheart Leslie missed a shot, but Clare, timing his leap with Leslie's release, came out of nowhere to snatch the rebound. The ball came loose, he boxed out once more, stole the ball back and put in the layup.

Classic Clare. The 6-foot-5 freshman forward (Harker Heights High) hustles and scraps to grab boards off the bench. He finished with his fourth-straight double-digit rebounding performance with 10 rebounds to go along with six points, helping CSUF upset the Rainbow Warriors, 67-64.

"I just try to get as many as I can to stay on the court longer," Clare said. "I know that's what coach (Dedrique) Taylor wants me out there for."

Clare is one of several freshmen for Fullerton (7-8 overall, 1-1 Big West) who are tasked with entering the delicate flow of the game and building on -- rather than breaking -- that rhythm.
