Nick and Noe Named to Team USA Roster

July 12, 2010

Cary, N.C. - Cal State Fullerton righthander Noe Ramirez and first baseman/left-handed pitcher Nick Ramirez were officially named to the 2010 USA Baseball College National Team Sunday night as the 22-man roster was unveiled after seven days of trials at the National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina.

The Titans continue to provide talent to USA Baseball, adding their 18th and 19th players to the Collegiate National Team since 1987 to go along with 5 US Olympians and three US National Team members. At the college level, only Stanford (27), Miami (21), and Georgia Tech (20) have supplied more players since 1984. For the first time in 2010, a Titan coach will also be representing the Red, White and Blue.

Fullerton Head Coach Dave Serrano, Team USA's pitching coach, is the first Titan head coach to serve in any capacity with USA Baseball while heading the Fullerton program. Former Titan Head Coach Augie Garrido was a Team USA assistant back in 1990, but he was with the University of Illinois at the time. Also worth mentioning, former Titan assistant and Long Beach State skipper Dave Snow also served as an assistant coach for the 1992 Olympic Team in Barcelona, Spain.

This year's Collegiate National Team consists of five infielders, four outfielders, two catchers, nine pitchers and a pair of two-way players and is comprised of the top non-draft-eligible college players in the United States.

The U.S. will play a five-game series against Korea before squaring off against a Japanese Collegiate All-Star Team in a one-game, international friendship competition in Omaha's Rosenblatt Stadium on July 21. From there, the team will travel to Taipei, Taiwan, for a four-game series against Chinese Taipei at Tien-Mu Stadium beginning July 25.

Team USA will close its summer season at the FISU World University Championships in Tokyo, Japan, from July 30-Aug. 7. The U.S. has won the last three FISU Worlds (2004, '06, '08), while host nation Japan will be looking for its first title.

The Collegiate National Team begins its summer season Monday evening when they travel to Gastonia, N.C. to face the Gastonia Grizzlies of the Coastal Plain League. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. (EDT) at Sims Legion Park.
