2008 Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-America Team

FULLERTON, CA - Cal State Fullerton freshmen Christian Colon, Gary Brown, and Daniel Renken were all named to the Collegiate Baseball 2008 Freshman All-America squads as announced by the Tucson-based publication.

The trio become the first Titan freshmen to be so honored by Collegiate Baseball since Wes Roemer in 2005 and the three selections are the most in a single season for Fullerton since 2003 when former greats Justin Turner, Danny Dorn, Dustin Miller, and Ryan Schreppel were all honored.

Colon, an All-Big West Conference Honorable Mention selection, is the team's second-leading hitter heading into this weekend's NCAA Super Regionals against Stanford, batting .335 with four home runs and 39 RBI. The rookie shortstop, who has started all 61 games this season, led all players in regional play last weekend with a .450 average, nine hits and eight RBI en route to all-tournament team honors.

Brown, also an all-conference honorable mention selection in 2008, has been one of the hottest hitters on the team over the last two months, going from a sub-.200 average at the end of March to a .289 average heading into the weekend to go with five home runs and 27 RBI. Brown's 24 stolen bases are a new school record for freshmen, breaking Dante Powell's previous mark of 19 set in 1992.

Renken enters the super regional weekend with a 5-5 overall record and a 4.11 ERA this season, striking out 80 batters in 81 innings. The rookie righthander led the staff in ERA up until the final weekend of the regular season against Long Beach State. His best outing this season came against then-No. 3 UCLA back on March 5 when he allowed just one run on three hits with 10 strikeouts in seven innings. He tossed a career-high eight innings against Pacific on April 19 in an 11-1 Titans victory.
