Three Titans Earn Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American Honors

June 3, 2009

Tucson, Ariz. - Cal State Fullerton rookies Tyler Pill, Nick Ramirez and Noe Ramirez were all named Freshmen All-Americans Wednesday morning by Collegiate Baseball for their 2009 on-field performances through last weekend's Regionals.

The 2009 trio are Fullerton's follow-ups to last year's Daniel Renken, Gary Brown and Christian Colon freshman class that was honored with the same distinction.

The three have combined for a 22-5 record with a 3.31 ERA and a more than 4-to-1 strikeout to walk ratio.

Pill set the Cal State Fullerton freshman mark for wins in a season with 11 victories to his credit heading into this weekend's Super Regional against Louisville. The right-hander has gone 11-3 with a 3.95 ERA in 16 starts this year and has gone all the way with two complete-game shutouts. Hailing from Covina, PIll was also named an All-Big West Honorable Mention and the Co-Big West Freshman Pitcher of the Year with teammate Noe Ramirez.

Nick Ramirez has been a versatile two-way player for the Titans this year and has compiled a .287 batting average to go along with 10 home runs and 31 RBI at the plate while posting a 3-1 record, a 2.70 ERA and seven saves to his credit out of the bullpen. The Anaheim native was named an All-Big West Conference first-teamer at season's end and is one of three Titans to have belted 10-or-more home runs this season.

Noe Ramirez has been a pleasant addition to the weekend rotation, joining the underclass trio of Daniel Renken (sophomore) and PIll. Noe Ramirez has put up an 8-1 record over 18 appearances (13 starts) and was also named a Big West Honorable Mention. The East Los Angeles native was named to the All-Fullerton Regional Team last weekend with a seven-inning, eight-strikeout performance in the Regional opener against Utah.

The Titans need just two more wins for their 16th trip to Omaha, Nebraska. Only the Louisville Cardnials stand in their way this weekend.THe best-of-three series begins Friday at 7:35 p.m. on ESPN2.
