Noe Named Big West Pitcher of the Week

May 31, 2010

Irvine, Calif. - Sophomore Noe Ramirez was named the Big West Pitcher of the Week for the fourth time this year after picking up a pair of wins last week against nationally- ranked UCLA and conference foe Cal State Northridge.

This is the final weekly award of the year presented by the Big West Conference.

On the week, Ramirez was 2-0 with an ERA of 0.00, walking 1 while striking out 12 over 10.2 innings.

His win on Tuesday against the Bruins, came in relief of an injured Colin O'Connell. The righty came on with runners at the corners and one out, and retired the first two hitters he faced. And after hitting a batter to open the fifth inning, Ramirez set down the next six men he faced. In all, the East Los Angeles native struck out 4 of the nine men that he went up against for the win.

In his start on Saturday, the right-hander limited the Matadors to just 4 hits over 8 innings while striking out 8 as the Titans clinched their 11th straight series victory. Ramirez has won in each of his last five appearances. He improved to 10-1, and lowered his ERA from 2.84 to 2.50 last week.

Ramirez is lined up to be the Saturday night starter for this weekend's NCAA Regional at Fullerton's Goodwin Field.

Possibly overlooked for player of the week honors was sophomore first baseman Nick Ramirez. Santa Barbara's Marty Mullins (6-for-11, .546, 5 R, 6 RBI, 3 HR) took home the final award from the players' side.

Nick Ramirez was a force at the plate for Titans as they went 4-0 in their final week of the regular season against No. 7 UCLA and Cal State Northridge. He batted .467 with 7 hits, 4 home runs and 9 RBI, including a 2 home run game in the regular season finale. Ramirez accounted for nearly half of the Titans' runs on the week with 9 RBI and 6 runs scored. All four of his home runs either tied, drove home the game-winning or the decisive runs in the Titan victories.
