POSTGAME QUOTES: GAME 3

May 31, 2008

FULLERTON, CA - Quotes from coaches and players following Virginia's 8-2 victory over Rider in an elimination game on Saturday afternoon at the NCAA Baseball Regionals at Goodwin Field.

RIDER HEAD COACH BARRY DAVIS
"Overall, I thought today was a lot better day for our program to compete against a quality time We had a chance to get back into it... it was a big boost for our program. We had a great year and accomplished a lot.

(on what he will tell his team):
"Our next season starts as soon as we take our showers today.

(on Kennedy):
"He's been good in games after a loss. He got us deep into the game. He's pitched a 7-innning game most of the year."

RIGHTFIELDER/PITCHER JAMIE HAYES
(On Carraway): "He threw a lot of strikes, got ahead in the count and put us away with sliders."

VIRGINIA COACH BRIAN O'CONNOR
"It was a good ball game. Andrew Carraway was in command from the start. He ran out of gas a little at the end.

"You don't want to go home 0-2. I know how Rider feels. Pat McAnaney will getthe ball for us tomorrow. He's a senior lefthander who has done some great things in our program.

(on 10 of the 14 hits coming from freshmen):
"That's exciting. Maybe tomorrow it will be the veterans. It's great experience these young guys are getting."

(On letting Schwimer pitch the ninth inning):
"He was already hot. It only took about 10 pitches to get them out. At tournament time, you have to do whatever it takes to win the game in front of you."

VIRGINIA PITCHER ANDREW CARRAWAY
"Early in the game I used a lot of fastballs. The later part of the game I relied on my slider. I was a little frustrated with myself when I had to come out.

VIRGINIA OUTFIELDER JOHN BARR
"It was great the offense got some hits to support what the pitchers have done."
