Box Score

FULLERTON, CA - David Cooper's one-out double scored Danny Dorn with the go-ahead run and ignited a five-run seventh inning as host Cal State Fullerton opened the 2006 NCAA Super Regionals with a 7-1 victory over Missouri on Friday night at Goodwin Field.

The Titans improved to 47-13 overall and moved one win closer to advancing to their 14th College World Series appearance in school history. The Tigers fell to 35-27 overall and will need to beat Cal State Fullerton twice in order to advance.

Fullerton right-hander Wes Roemer (13-1) surrendered a career-high tying 11 hits in eight innings of work, but allowed only one run while striking out nine as Missouri was 2-for-15 with runners in scoring position for the game. Reliever Ryan Paul pitched a perfect ninth to close out the win.

Max Scherzer (7-3), who was perfect through four innings and allowed just one hit through five, suffered the loss, allowing four runs on six hits while striking out six in 6 1/3 innings of play.

Dorn, who finished 2-for-4, led off the seventh with a single to left and came around to score the winning run one batter later when Cooper's long fly ball to right hit off the top of the wall for a double, plating Dorn for the 2-1 advantage.

Three consecutive hits by the Titans plated two more runs and the rally was capped by Justin Turner's two-out, two-run double to make it 6-1. Turner, who tied the game at 1-1 with a double in the sixth, also finished 2-for-4 with three RBI.

Cal State Fullerton was 5-for-10 with six RBI with runners in scoring position while Missouri stranded 10 runners on base - including six in scoring position for the game.

Game two of the super regional round is scheduled for Saturday night (June 10) at 7 p.m. with Sunday's game three, if necessary, also scheduled for 7 p.m.
