FULLERTON, CA - Postgame quotes from Saturday night's NCAA Super Regional opener between host Cal State Fullerton and UCLA...

UCLA HEAD COACH JOHN SAVAGE...
(Opening Statement): "We got outplayed. They were better than we were tonight."

(On bouncing back from loss): "I don't think it's that tough. It's a best of three... it could have been a walk-off home run and a 4-3 game. We'll be ready to go tomorrow. Bottom line, you gotta win two games."

UCLA SHORTSTOP BRANDON CRAWFORD...
(On Cal State Fullerton starting pitcher Wes Roemer): "He pitched well. He mixed it up. He kept us off balance. He's a competitor. I got some through some holes."

UCLA STARTING PITCHER TYSON BRUMMETT...
(On rough start): "They were pretty patient and battled me from the beginning."

(On giving up 2-out runs): "It's pretty frustrating.... Give them credit. They are a good hitting team and they got to me."

CAL STATE FULLERTON HEAD COACH George Horton...
(Opening Statement): "We played a pretty complete game. They had some good at bats early against Wes, but he did what he does. I was really pleased with the offensive effort vs. Brummett. Our hitters were locked in."

"We're tickled to death to get one (win) but we have a formidable opponent and a lot of work to do tomorrow."

(On the late-season success): "It's been an up and down year and the down came at a different time than we are accustomed to. They've been given an opportunity. They've stayed with it and turned it around. I'll take my chances with the way we've played recently."

(On hitting of late): "We were locked in last weekend. Our guys have accepted the challenge. Coach (Jason) Gill has them going good right now. My hope is to not change it."

"We have a chance to play on TV as one of the top 16 teams in the country. We are cherishing every moment."

CAL STATE FULLERTON THIRD BASEMAN Evan McArthur...
(On two-out hits): "We worked a lot on that in practice. They are called 'battle stations'... We try to waste good pitches until we get something we can handle."

CAL STATE FULLERTON CATCHER John Curtis...
(On adjustments since first time vs. Brummett): "He kept it the same. I saw a lot of change ups last time. I was sitting on his fastball and waiting on a mistake and he left a couple of pitches up."

CAL STATE FULLERTON STARTING PITCHER Wes Roemer...
(On giving up 3 hits to first three batters): "The pickoff really helped. They had hit some balls that found some holes. I was able to slow the game down after the first couple of hits."

(On hitting Jermaine Curtis): "I was going too fast for him. I hit him twice. He crowds the plate. That one ran in on him a little. I thought it hit the bat."
