FOUNTAIN VALLEY H.S.: Turned in a couple of stellar seasons at Fountain Valley (Calif.) H.S., where he played for Coach Ron LaRuffa • Earned first-team All-Sunset League, second-team All-Orange County and second-team All-CIF honors as a senior, when he batted .376 and stole 14 bases to help the Barons to the league title and the CIF quarterfinals • Also a first-team all-league and second-team all-county pick as a junior, when he hit .459 and set single-season school records for hits (45) and assists (83).
