Titans Drop Regular Season-Finale

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton dropped the regular season-finale at Cal Poly Saturday afternoon by a final score of 5-4. The Titans finish the season with a 31-22 record and 20-10 in Big West play. 

Fullerton finishes the season in second place in the Big West conference but gets the automatic bid to the NCAA postseason due to UC San Diego being ineligible. 

Cal Poly struck first, scoring one run in the bottom of the third inning on a sacrifice fly. 

The Titans took the lead in the fifth inning on a two-run home run by Zach Lew. The fifth-year senior now has seven home runs this season, nearly doubling his home run total from the previous four years combined. 

The Mustangs quickly responded with two runs in the home half of the fifth to retake the lead. Cal Poly extended its lead to 4-2 in the sixth inning on a wild pitch. 

Evan Yates got the start for the Titans and gave up four runs (three earned) on seven hits  in 5.1 innings pitched. Yates walked two and struck out two batters while drawing the loss to drop to 2-3 on the year. 

Fullerton came back to tie the game in the eighth inning on a two-run double by Carter White to bring home Nate Nankil and Max Ortega

Cal Poly scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the ninth inning to ultimately earn the victory. 

Fullerton now awaits its NCAA Regional destination. The NCAA Selection Show will be aired Monday at 9:00 a.m. PT on ESPN 2.
