Titans Suffer First Conference Series Loss of Season

FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton baseball lost its first conference series of the season after dropping game two to UC San Diego by a final score of 11-2 Saturday evening at Goodwin Field. 

The Titans are now 28-18 on the year and still remain in first place in the Big West with a 17-6 record. Coming into the weekend the Titans had won all eight conference series they had played. 

UC San Diego scored nine unanswered runs from the first to the fifth inning. The Tritons broke the game open in the fourth inning with six runs, including a grand slam, to take an 8-0 lead.

Fullerton finally got on the scoreboard in the seventh inning on a two-run home run by Caden Connor. Connor went 3-for-5 on the day and recorded his 200th career hit. 

Fynn Chester drew his second straight loss to drop to 7-2 on the year after allowing eight runs (seven earned) on nine hits in four innings. 

Michael Mitchell earned the win for UCSD to improve to 3-1 on the year. Mitchell threw five shutout innings while walking one and striking out three. 

The Titans look to bounce back and stave off a series sweep in game three Sunday afternoon at Goodwin Field. First pitch is slated for 1:00 p.m. PT.
