Titans Defeat USC at Goodwin Field

FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton baseball defeated USC Wednesday night at Goodwin Field by a final score of 4-2. With the win the Titans improve to 27-13 on the year with the win. 

The Titans struggled to get hits all night but came through when it counted most to get runs on the board. After Jack Haley reached base and advanced to second on a throwing error by USC, Moises Guzman doubled to left field to bring him home and put the Titans up 1-0 in the third inning. 

In the fifth inning, the Titans loaded the bases on an error and two walks. With two outs, Zach Lew ripped a double down the left field line to clear the bases and put Fullerton up 4-0. This season the Titans have scored 87 times with two outs for a total of 116 runs. 

USC cut into the Titans lead in the sixth inning on a solo home run by Cole Gabrielson. The Trojans scored another run in the eighth inning on a wild pitch to cut the Titans lead to 4-2. 

The Titans used a total of seven pitchers in the game who gave up a combined eight hits but stranded 10 USC base runners to maintain the lead throughout the game. 

Seth Tomczak got the start and earned the win to improve to 2-0 on the year. Tomczak pitched three shutout innings, giving up just two hits while issuing one walk and striking out four batters. Tomczak gave up a leadoff double to start the game before bouncing back to strike out the side. 

Jojo Ingrassia earned his fifth save of the season after pitching 1.1 shutout innings and allowing just one hit while striking out one batter. 

The Titans head back out on the road this weekend for a three-game nonconference series at TCU beginning Friday night.
