Urman's 11th Inning Home Run Lifts Titans Past CSUN

Urman's 11th Inning Home Run Lifts Titans Past CSUN

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – With two outs in the top of the 11th inning and the game tied at 2-2, Cole Urman hit a go-ahead two-run home run to lift the Titans past CSUN, 4-2, in the rubber match Sunday afternoon at Matador Field.

Following its series win over CSUN the Titans have now won nine consecutive weekend series and have won all seven conference series played. Fullerton's nine series wins equals the most since 2018.

With the win, Fullerton improves to 26-13 on the year and 17-4 in Big West play to remain in first place in the conference standings.

Unlike the first two games of the series, Sunday was a low-scoring pitchers duel. Evan Yates gave the Titans a third quality start in his last four games, allowing just one earned run on two hits in six innings pitched.

On the other side, Thomas Bainton allowed two earned runs on two hits in seven innings pitched. Neither starter got a decision.

The Titans jumped out to a lead in the top of the first inning on an RBI single by Nate Nankil to drive in Moises Guzman from second base. Nankil was the only Titan to have a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 with an RBI and a walk.

Fullerton took a 2-0 lead in the third inning on a sacrifice fly by Maddox Latta to score Guzman from third. Guzman went 1-for-3 on the day with two runs and two walks.

CSUN cut the Titans lead in half in the fifth inning as Nathan Barraza hit an RBI single up the middle of the infield to make it a 2-1 game.

The Matadors tied the game at 2-2 with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning to eventually force extra innings.

In the top half of the 11th the Titans got the leadoff runner on as Latta singled through the left side of the infield. Following a sacrifice bunt and pop-out, Urman stepped to the plate with two outs and Latta at second base. On the first pitch he saw, Urman blasted a home run to left field, his third of the season and second in three games at CSUN.

Jojo Ingrassia shut the door on the Matadors to earn the win and improve to 5-1 on the year. Ingrassia pitched 3.1 shutout innings, allowing two hits while walking two and striking out four batters.

The Titans are 9-3 on Sunday's this season and a perfect 6-0 on Sunday's against Big West opponents.

Fullerton is back at Goodwin Field Wednesday as USC comes to town for a one-game midweek matchup at 6:00 p.m. PT. Following Wednesday's game against USC the Titans head to Texas for a three-game nonconference series at TCU.
