FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton heads to the Inland Empire for a three game matchup against UC Riverside beginning Friday afternoon. Friday's start time has been moved up to 3:00 p.m. due to rain in the forecast. Saturday and Sunday's game time has not been changed.
The Titans head into the series with a 20-24 record along with a 6-9 conference record and are coming off of a strong performance against Grand Canyon University where the Titans defeated the Lopes 11-3. UC Riverside is 16-29 this season with a 5-10 conference record and are coming off of a series in which they were swept by last place Long Beach State.
Fullerton is 45-23 all-time against UC Riverside and have not lost a season series to the Highlanders since 2014. The Titans are 17-15 all-time when playing at the Riverside Sports Complex.
Mitchell Berryhill has slightly dropped in the national batting average standings but is still ranked fourth in the nation with a .427 average, which also leads the Big West Conference. With his .427 average, Berryhill would rank third for the highest batting average in a single season in the history of the program. The leader is Gary Brown who hit .438 it 2010.
Dillon Brown has been a key part of the pitching staff this season, as he has a 3-1 record in 31.2 innings pitched. Brown has set a career-high for most innings pitched in a season and his three wins in 2019 are also the most he has had in a single season. To add to his career-highs, Brown has two saves this year and has a the lowest ERA of his career, 1.73, which is the lowest on the team for pitches who have throw 10 or more innings.
Jairus Richards has shined in his senior season, hitting .338 which ranks second on the team and sixth in the Big West Conference. Richards has 22 RBI on the season which ranks fourth on the team and 17 runs.
Friday's game may give the Titans a slight advantage as they have played much better in day games this season. In day games this year, Fullerton is 12-6 with a .328 batting average while 11 of the Titans 16 home runs have come in day games. Tanner Bibee has been brilliant in the two day games he has started this year with a 2-0 record and 0.00 ERA to go along with 12 strikeouts.
