Full Collegiate Baseball Release
TUCSON, Ariz. – Cal State Fullerton has been placed at No. 18 on Collegiate Baseball Newspaper's initial Fabulous 40 NCAA Division I preseason poll, the publication released on Tuesday. The Titans are coming off a 2018 campaign that saw them host a Super Regional for the 10th time in program history.
Cal State Fullerton has now been ranked within the top-23 in all 21 preseason polls since Collegiate Baseball implemented its own preseason poll before the 1999 season. Fullerton is the fourth highest ranked team on the west coast, only behind UCLA, Stanford and Oregon State.
In addition, Fullerton is the only Big West team in the rankings while Long Beach State, UC Santa Barbara, Cal Poly and UC Irvine are all receiving votes in the poll but are not ranked.
For the Titans, it'll be a good mix of returners and newcomers that should make up a team worthy of its top-18 preseason ranking. Fullerton welcomes back one all-conference performer from a year ago in junior Hank LoForte. The Titans will also be under the leadership of five-time Big West Coach of the Year Rick Vanderhook, who enters his eighth season as head coach.
Fullerton will open up the season at the MLB Collegiate Tournament Feb. 15-17 in Arizona against TCU, Vanderbilt and Virginia. The Titans then host their home opener on Feb. 18 against 2018's Super Regional opponent, Washington, in a matinee game at 2:00 p.m.
