SOUTH YARMOUTH, Mass. – Cal State Fullerton's Sahid Valenzuela has earned a spot in the 2018 Cape Cod League All-Star Game, after putting together a spectacular first half with the Wareham Gatemen. He'll play for the West Division with the game slated for Sunday at 6 pm PT out at Whitehouse Field in Harwich, Mass.
Valenzuela's selection to the All-Star Game should be of no surprise to anyone, as he's posting a .324 batting average in 74 at bats to go along with 11 runs scored, 24 hits, five doubles, two homers, 14 RBI and five walks so far.
Valenzuela's batting average is currently sixth highest in the league, as he's helped lead Wareham to an 18-11-1 record thus far, which is good enough for first place in the West Division.
The Yuma, Ariz. native is coming off a spectacular year with the Titans, where he helped guide Fullerton to the Big West Conference Championship and came just one win from reaching Omaha. He started all 61 games at shortstop for Fullerton and ripped a team-high 14 doubles for the season.
ABOUT THE CAPE COD LEAGUE
The Cape Cod Baseball League traces back to 1885 and is the premier collegiate summer league in the nation. The league is comprised of 10 teams that span from Wareham, MA up to Orleans, MA. The season features 44 regular season games followed by playoffs and a final Championship round. As the league celebrates its 133rd year, it counts more than 1,100 all-time alumni performing at all levels of professional baseball with a record number (306) former Cape Leaguers on Major League rosters today.
