Titans Cruise to Ninth Series Victory of Season, Defeat ‘Bows in Series Finale

Box Score

HONOLULU--- Fullerton led from wire-to-wire, cruising to a 6-2 win over Hawaii in the series finale, Sunday afternoon at Les Murakami Stadium.

For the Titans (28-16, 10-5 Big West), the win clinched their ninth weekend series win of the season, while Blake Workman (5-1) picked up the victory in the spot start, going 5.0 innings, while scattering seven hits, one run and two walks on the day.

Zach Weller launched his second home run of the year and went 2-of-4 from the plate, while recording two RBI and scoring a run. Hank LoForte had himself a day as well, as he earned the start at second base. He 1-of-2 and collected two RBI, recorded a walk and scored a run.

Dillon Persinger notched his second straight multi-hit game, going 2-of-4 from the plate, while scoring and driving in a run. The Titan 1-6 hitters all scored one run, while eight of the nine Fullerton starters recorded at least one knock.

Hawaii's (25-17, 7-8 Big West) Neil Uskall (6-3) took the loss, lasting just 2.2 innings and surrendering six hits and three earned runs.

Unlike last night, the Titans wasted no time getting on the board in this one, as Hurst took the second pitch of the ballgame and drove it up the middle for a base hit. He then advanced to second on a balk, before Richards laid down a perfectly executed sacrifice bunt to move Hurst to third. Persinger then produced a sacrifice fly to center field to allow Hurst to score from third and put the Titans up 1-0.

Fullerton struck for another one in the second, as the first three Titans reached base in the inning. LoForte led things off with a walk, then Weller and Hunter Cullen came through with back-to-back singles to drive in LoForte to make it a 2-0 advantage.

Hawaii got one back in the second, as Adam Fogel led off the second with a solo home run down the left field line to make it a 2-1 contest.

The Titans kept the pressure on in the third, knocking out Uskali from the game after just 2.2 innings. Persinger began the two-out rally with a rocket to right field and then advanced to second base on a wild pitch before Bryant and LoForte connected on back-to-back singles to left field to bring home Persinger. LoForte got credit for the RBI.

Bryant then came around to score the second run of the inning, after Weller hit a scorcher to third base, which eventually trickled into left field on the fielding error by the third baseman, making it a 4-1 Titan lead.

However it wasn't just the offense coming through for the Titans. Hawaii loaded the bases in the bottom of the third, but Bryant began a beautiful 5-4-3 inning-ending double play to get Fullerton out of trouble.

The Titans tacked on another run in the fifth, as Richards led off the frame with a bunt single. Persinger grounded out and advanced Richards to second. Bryant then walked before both Richards and Bryant moved up to third and second respectively after a wild pitch. LoForte then picked up his second RBI of the day, driving a sacrifice fly to right field to extend the Titan lead to 5-1.

Jack Pabich pitched 1.1 innings in relief, including recording a swinging strikeout to end the sixth inning, as Hawaii left the bases loaded in the frame.

Hawaii got a one-out homer from Josh Rojas in the seventh to make it 5-2, but Weller quickly responded with a leadoff jack over the left field fence to begin the eighth for the Titans to make it 6-2.

Then it was Brett Conine time, as he pitched a perfect final two innings, striking out four of the six batters he faced to shut down the 'Bows and preserve the win.

Fullerton now returns to Goodwin Field, where they'll take on UCLA at 6 pm PT on Senior Night.
