Scioscia is just the third manager to guide his first club for at least 17 consecutive seasons, joining Walter Alston (23 years with the Dodgers) and Tommy Lasorda (21 years with the Dodgers). During his 17 seasons with the Angels, Scioscia, has guided the club to seven playoff appearances, captured six American League West titles, won an American League pennant and led the Halos to the franchise's first World Series title in 2002.

He has managed former Titan pitchers Vinnie Pestano (2014-15) and Matt Wise (2000-03), while former Cal State Fullerton player José Mota serves an analyst for the Angels' radio broadcast team. In addition, as a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Scioscia was on the 1981 team that played Titan great Tim Wallach's Montreal Expos in the National League Championship Series. The pair were also National League All-Stars together in 1989 and 1990.

Scioscia was the first manager in MLB history to guide his team to the playoffs six times in his first 10 seasons, as he led the Angels to six consecutive winning seasons (2004-09) for first time in club history. He is one of seven managers in MLB history to guide the same franchise for at least 17 straight seasons.

Cal State Fullerton wrapped up the 2016 season with a 36-23 (.610) overall record, notching the 42nd straight 30-win season for the Titans. Sixth-year head coach Rick Vanderhook led Fullerton to its 21st Big West Conference title and 29th conference championship overall as he was named Big West Coach of the Year for the fourth time in his career. It was also the Titans' fourth conference title in his five years as head coach. He now holds a 197-103 overall record as coach of the Titans.

Fullerton made its 38th NCAA Tournament appearance in 2016 in 42 seasons at the NCAA Division I level. It was the Titans 25th straight postseason berth, the third longest active streak behind Miami, FL. (44) and Florida State (39).

Cal State Fullerton's 2016 recruiting class was ranked No. 21 in the nation, according to Collegiate Baseball newspaper's annual evaluation.

The Titans' 2016 recruiting class features 2016 California Community College Southern California Player of the Year Dillon Persinger, 2016 California Community College Southern California Pitcher of the Year Joe Wills, 2016 California Community College All-Southern California Team selection Chris Prescott, as well as, Dillon Brown, Daniel Cope, Jimmy Endersby, Evan Larsen, JT McLellan, Jack Pabich, Trent Paddon, Jake Penix, Boston Romero, Sahid Valenzuela and Zach Weller.

The alumni game will be played the following day, at 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 28, at Goodwin Field.
