BREA, Calif. — Cal State Fullerton cross country ran a noticeable performance at the Mark Covert Classic Saturday morning, featuring a second-place finish by the men's team and a third-place finish by the women.
The men's squad totaled 63 points in the 8k race, with an average time of 24:59 for the team. The group was led by Tony Chavez with a seventh place finish and a time of 24:41.3, along with Nathaniel Avila beating his previous PR of 25:01 with a time of 24:54, placing 11th overall. Each Titan finished with scoring places within the top 33.
Talman Young placed 15th with a 24:59.2, while Jeremiah Castellano took 20th with a time of 25:07.1. Vicente Huerta followed with a 22nd place finish, running a 25:12.4, while Justin Singer placed 25th with a 25:17.3. Sean Lacey rounded out Fullerton's scoring finishers with a 25:31.3, taking 33rd.
Mia Bergman led the way in the women's 5k race with a PR of 18:18.1, finishing in 12th place. Following were Oliva Ruiz in 14th place with a time of 18:20.7 and Jicel Fernandez in 16th overall with a time of 18:27. Each women's squad runner achieved scoring places within the top 31.
Nanette Novak (18th, 18:29.7), Destiny Lopez (19th, 18:30.9) and Bella Smith (20th, 18:30.9) crossed the finish line together, while Ashlynn Viramontes placed 31st with a time of 18:50.4 to round out the Titans' scoring runners.
The Cal State Fullerton cross country squad will next head to Springfield, Oregon, to compete in the Bill Dellinger Invitational on Friday, September 22nd, hoping to have another strong showing.
