Caesar, XC Women Take Second, Garcia, Men Third at Highlander Invitational

RIVERSIDE, Calif.McKaylie Caesar broke her own program record to place second and lead Cal State Fullerton women's cross country to a second-place team finish Saturday morning at the Highlander Invitational. On the men's side, Alexis Garcia and the men's team finished third individually and as a team. 

Caesar shattered the previous program record she set at the Bill Dellinger Invitational earlier this season by six seconds, racing to a 19:52.8 Saturday in the women's 6K. She finished second to Northern Colorado's Regina Mpigachai (19:46.6). 

Mia Bergman also recorded a top-10 finish for the Titans, running a personal-best 20:34.6. Olivia Ruiz ran a personal-best 20:53.1 to place 22nd, while Dana McGrath followed in 23rd place with a 20:56.1. Kimberly Pena raced a 21:04.5 to place 28th and Ashlynn Viramontes set a personal-best of 21:08.2 to finish 30th. Eva Rethmeier placed 33rd to round out the Titans' scoring finishers, running a 21:12.3. 

As a team, the Cal State Fullerton women's squad tallied 70 points to place second, finishing behind Adams State (30) and before UCLA (112), Arizona (122) and Colorado (165). 

Alexis Garcia led the Titans in the men's 8K contest with a personal-best time of 23:49.3, good for third place. Talman Young (24:30.8) and Jeremiah Castellano (24:33.8) each ran personal-bests to finish in 25th and 28th places, respectively. Tony Chavez ran a 24:37.5 to finish 34th and Vicente Huerta ran a personal-best 24:43.3 to place 39th. Andrew Castellon placed 57th with a time of 24:57.9, and Nathan England ran a personal-best 25:12.3 to finish 70th and round out the Titans' scoring finishers.

The men's team garnered 111 points to place third, finishing behind Adams State (24) and Azusa Pacific (103). Arizona (132) and Colorado (152) rounded out the meet's top-five finishers.   

The Titans return to action at home next Friday, October 21st, for the John Elders Titan Invite. The meet is scheduled to start at 5:00 p.m. PT.
