History Made at NCAA West Regionals

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The women's cross-country team finished 10th overall with a score of 281 (15-57-65-66-78) at the NCAA DI West Cross Country Regional. This marks as the highest finish for the lady Titans in program history. The women's team was led by the Big West individual conference champion Trinity Ruelas, who covered the 6k course in a time of 20:18.8. Ruelas finished 15th overall and will find out on Saturday November 13th, if she secured an automatic bid to the NCAA DI Cross-Country Nationals as an individual. 

For the first time this season, the number two spot was filled by Dana McGrath, who moved up six places in the last kilometer to finish 57thoverall in a time of 21:05.9. Four seconds behind McGrath, was McKaylie Caesar who finished 65th overall with a time of 21:09.9. Rounding out the four and five spot for the lady Titans were Eva Rethmeier (21:10.9) and Mia Bergman (21:26.1) who finished 66th and 78threspectively. 

On the men's side, the team was able to record their best regional finish in program history as well, after scoring 395 points (31-44-97-108-115) for 11th overall. Alexis Garcia led the way for the Titans after covering the 10k course in a time of 30:24.7. For the first time this season, Sammy Ayala slid into the number two spot for the Titans, after finishing 44th overall with a time of 30:45.4. To round out the rest of the scorers for the men were Jacob Smith (32:01.2) who finished 97th overall, Jeremiah Castellano (32:16.5) who finished 109th overall, and Andrew Castellon (32:21.2) who finished 116th overall.  

"I was really happy with the way the teams performed; these are the best finishes in the history of our program. It's just a testament to how our athletes our developing throughout the season from competing at big meets like the Dellinger, to conference, and now at the regional level competing with the best teams in the west and performing their best. Coach Tebbe is doing an amazing job, can't ask for a better staff and looking forward to track season."

The 2021 DI cross country selection show in which the NCAA will announce individual and team participants, men and women, for the 2021 finals in Tallahassee, will take place Saturday, November 13 at 2:00PM PST. The selection show will be streamed live on ncaa.com.
