USTFCCCA Preseason Regional Rankings (PDF)
FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton men's and women's cross country squads were recognized by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA) on Monday in the preseason regional rankings. For the first time in program history, both teams cracked the top-15 in the preseason rankings as each one sits in the No. 15, respectively.
"I think it's a validation of our program," head coach John Elders said. "People are noticing that we are getting better and more competitive as a program."
On the men's side, the Titans are ranked No. 15 overall in the region and third among the Big West Conference. Cal Poly sits at the No. 8 spot and UC Santa Barbara is No. 14. In 2016, CSF earned a third-place finish at the conference championships and took 15th overall the NCAA West Regional.
For the women, CSF also holds the No. 15 spot in the west region and is also third among conference foes. Cal Poly leads the way at No. 11 while UC Santa Barbara is 14th. Last year, the Titans finished in fourth place at the Big West Championships and took 15th place in the NCAA West Regional.
"In the big picture, it doesn't really matter because we haven't even had a race yet," Elders said. "But, in terms of the team confidence I think it helps for sure. We felt we had pretty good teams last year and ran some good races but we didn't get any recognition so to have that validation does give us confidence and now we can strive to move up in the rankings."
The 2017 season begins for the Titans on Saturday by hosting the Mark Covert Classic at Carbon Canyon Regional Park. The men's 8,000-meter race is set to begin at 8:30 a.m. PT while the women will begin their 6K at 9:15 a.m. Click here for more information.

The Ticket Office is located at the Titan House off of Gymnasium Drive at the eastern end of the Intramural Fields and is open from 10 am – 4 pm PT, Monday – Friday.
