Pair of Titans Sweep Cross Country Honors

FULLERTON, Calif. – Following competition at the historic Rim Rock Farm course in Lawrence, Kan., Cal State Fullerton junior Emily Taylor and sophomore Danny Ramirez swept the Big West Cross Country Athlete of the Week honors for the second time this season, it was announced by the league office on Tuesday.

Taylor, running in her first 6K event of the year, completed the course as the top Fullerton finisher in her third event. The native of Huntington Beach, Calif., led the team's fourth place effort in the Rim Rock Farm Classic on Oct. 4.

Posting a time of 22:25.5, Taylor finished eighth among collegiate runners on the 6K Rim Rock Farm course in Lawrence, Kan.

The Titan women (124 points) placed behind New Mexico State (96 points), host Kansas (43 points) and meet champion Rice (41 points), as a trio of Owls placed 1-2-3 on the leaderboard.

Ramirez captured 10th place at the Rim Rock Farm 8K course, crossing the line in 25:14.0. He shaved 45 seconds off his previous 8K mark at the Mustang Challenge that took place on Sept. 20. Ramirez has improved his 8K time in each of his previous two events.

The Buena Park, Calif., native led the Titan men (77 points) to a third place finish and just out of the reach of Nebraska-Kearney (76 points) and Rice (65), who placed a pair of participants in the top-10.

The Fullerton duo previously swept the conference honors back on Sept. 23 following competition at the Mustang Challenge on Sept. 20.

The Titans return to the course next weekend when they travel to Riverside, Calif., for the Highlander Invitational at the UCR Ag/Ops Course on Saturday, Oct. 18.

Note:
There were no other nominations as Cal State Fullerton garnered both the only nominee per gender for the week.
