USTFCCCA Release

FULLERTON, Calif. - The U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA) announced the 2019 All-Academic honorees on Monday and Cal State Fullerton track and field junior Samantha Huerta was one of them.

Including the Scholar Athletes of the Year, a total of 902 women earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors during the 2018-19 track & field seasons.

To qualify for USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and have met at least one of the following athletic standards:

  • For the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org.
  • For the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).

Huerta had quite a 2019 campaign on the track. She was named Big West Women's Track Athlete of the Year and earned Second-Team NCAA All-America honors. She broke each of her own school records in the 800 meters, 1,500 meters and mile. Huerta became the first Titan to ever win Big West titles in both the 800 meters and 1,500 meters in the same meet as she clocked times of 2:04.81 and 4:30.66 to secure both. She played a key role in the women's team claiming the first conference championship in program history. Individually, she qualified for the NCAA West Preliminaries and broke her own school record in the 800 meters at 2:03.96 to punch her ticket to the NCAA Championships. She then became the first woman in program history to compete at the NCAA Championships in the event and garnered Second-Team All-America accolades as she earned a 14th-place finish with a time of 2:04.90.
