Huerta Breaks Own 1500m Record

FULLERTON, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton track and field competed at both the Bryan Clay Invitational and Beach Invitational on Friday and the day was highlighted by Samantha Huerta breaking her own school record in the 1,500-meter race.

At the Bryan Clay Invite, Samantha Huerta's personal-best time of 4:18.39 was good for a school record, the top time in the Big West this season and 17th place overall in a high-level race with some of the best runners in the country. She smashed her previous record of 4:25.03 that was set earlier this season at the Baldy Castillo Invitational. 

In the men's 3K steeplechase, Anthony Alfaro led the way with a time of 9:01.90, the best mark in the conference this year. Jorge Sanchez ran as well in 9:11.87. On the women's side, Sarah Hollis led the Titans with a time of 11:06.14. 

Alyssa Block led the way for the Titans in the women's 5K with a time of 16:43.95 in heat three. Lucina Vincent clocked a personal-best time of 17:18.36 in the women's 5K to take fourth place in heat six. Trinity Ruelas clocked a time of 17:44.80 in heat two.

Jake Smith was just off his PR in the men's 1,500-meter race with a time of 3:50.73. 

For the men's 5K, Uriel Medina had a time of 15:05.12 and Sam Pimentel clocked a time of 15:10.39. Demi Marine ran the women's 10K in 39:27.17.

At the Beach Invitational, Trevor Gorwin led the Titans in the men's hammer throw with a toss of 186-6 (56.84m). On the women's side, Sinai Fatafehi had a personal-best toss of 180-7 (55.05m) in the women's hammer to take 24th place of 80. Nicole Clark took ninth place in the women's javelin with a mark of 154-9 (47.18m) and Kelsey McKelvey was at 131-7 (40.12m).
