Espinoza Named Big West Men's Track Athlete of the Week

FULLERTON, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton track and field was honored on Thursday as Marcel Espinoza was named Big West Men's Track Athlete of the Week for the second time this season.

Espinoza (Santa Monica, Calif.) notched Big West Men's Track Athlete of the Week honors as he won the 400 meters at the prestigious Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational. His time of 46.13 seconds set a school record, breaking Darion Zimmerman's mark of 46.86 from 2017. The time also ranks as the 23rd-fastest in the country and 10th-best in the West Region. Espinoza leads the Big West in the event by .88 seconds. He also ran the anchor leg of the winning 4x400 relay team which finished in a season-best 3:10.11. Espinoza ran his split in 46.5.
