Busy Day for Fullerton at Big West Championships

FULLERTON, Calif. --- Freshman Naiah Boardingham placed third in the women's long jump with a mark of 19'5.25" (5.93 m) as the Titans completed the first day of competition at the Big West Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Titan Track Complex.

 

The women's team is currently in sixth place with 16.20 points, while the men's is also in sixth with 18 points. The action continues on Saturday at Cal State Fullerton with field events starting at 10 a.m., and the track events beginning just after 2 p.m. FOX Sports will air the dramatic finishes with the broadcast beginning at 2 p.m.

 

Other finals for the Titans included senior Ty'Jalayah Robertson in the women's high jump as she placed fourth and claimed five points for the Titans with a mark of 5'7.75" (1.72m).

 

Jacob Ruiz set a new personal best in the pole vault as his mark of 16'3.5" (4.97m) was good for fourth place and totaled five points for the Titans. A year ago, Ruiz placed ninth at 4.75 meters.

 

Edwin Matthews set a new PR with a throw of 200' (60.96m) in the javelin (five points) to place fourth, while Alvin Sung finished fifth in the javelin 192'09" (58.76m) to score four points for the Titans.

 

Dwayne Lee picked up three points for the Titans finishing sixth in the long jump at 23'10". (7.26m)

 

Jorge Sanchez scored a point for the Fullerton in the 3,000 meter steeplechase finishing eighth in a time of 9:31.84 while Pamela Pelayo also picked up a point for Cal State Fullerton in the 3,000 meter steeplechase finishing eighth in a time of 11:05.36.

 

In the 10,000 meters, Brianna Jacklin finished eighth and notched a point for Cal State Fullerton in a time of 37:12.65.

 

Mason Guzman-Sanchez advanced to Saturday's 110-meter hurdles final in a time of 14.41, matching his personal best.

 

Darion Zimmerman won heat two of the 400 meters in 47.70 to move on to tomorrow's final, along with teammate Marcel Espinoza who nabbed the final qualifying spot in a time of 49.29.

 

Mason Rollins won heat three of the men's 100 meters in 10.69 and Luis Matos won heat four in a time of 10.64 as the pair advanced to Saturday's final with teammate Eli Penick (10.62).

 

Shelby Hernandez, Jr., won heat three of the men's 800 meters in 1:53.18, and qualified for Saturday's final with teammate Isaiah Marshall (1:53.62).

 

Sandra Flores advanced to Saturday's 1,500 meter final in a time of 4:44.60.

 

Kiana Clay won her heat of the women's 400 meters in 55.07- the fastest time of the day – advancing to Saturday's final along with teammate Zuri Henderson, who clocked a time 55.94.

 

Diego Courbis won his heat, and clocked the fastest time of the day (52.89) to advance to Saturday's final in the 400-meter hurdles.

 

In the 200-meter dash, Darion Zimmerman won his heat in time of 21.45, while Thaddeus Smith also topped his heat at 21.47, qualifying for Saturday's final along with Mason Rollins (21.53).
