FULLERTON, Calif. – Junior Diego Courbis will represent Chile at the South American U23 Track and Field Championships on Saturday in Lima, Peru.

Organized by the South American Track and Field Association which is comprised of 13 countries, the championships are held every two years.

Courbis is currently the No. 1 ranked 400-meter hurdler for Chile at the U23 level with his personal-best time of 52.16.

The Mission Viejo, Calif., native is expected to compete in the 400-meter hurdles, 4x100-meter relay and 4x400-meter relay.

Saturday will mark his first time representing Chile.

During the 2016 outdoor track and field season for the Titans, Courbis competed in the 100 meters, 400 meters, 400-meter hurdles, the 4x400-meter relay and the long jump. He finished eighth in the 400-meter hurdle final at the Big West Championships with a time of 53:16. His best time of the season in the event was 52:44 at the RCC Invitational which resulted in a second-place finish.
