Titans' Season Ends at NCAA West Preliminaries

LAWRENCE, Kans. - Eight Titans saw their seasons come to an end as they competed in the NCAA West Preliminaries, hosted by the University of Kansas.

The top 46 athletes in the West Division competed in the preliminaries, while the top 12 in each event qualify for the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oreg.

The Titans sent eight different representatives to compete in seven different events and although none qualified for the Championships, valiant efforts were given all the way around.

Big West Champions Eli Penick and Darion Zimmerman competed in the 100-meter dash and 400-meter dash, respectively. Penick finished 37th overall with his time of 10.64, while Zimmerman finished 28th overall with his time of 47.39.

The Titans sent two men to compete in the 110-meter hurdles and 400-meter hurdles in Aneesh Joshi and Nick Reynolds, respectively. Joshi finished 39th overall, running a time of 14.56 while Reynolds ran a time of 52.88, good for 35th overall.

The Titans also sent both men's relay teams, including the 4x100 meter relay team who brought home the program's first ever 4x100 title.

The men's 4x100 meter relay team, comprised of Penick, Luis Matos, Zimmerman and Nathan Bass, finished 20th overall and ran a time of 41.00.

The 4x400 meter relay team, comprised of Thomas Medina, Matos, Zimmerman and Reynolds ran a time of 3:13.91, finishing 23rd overall.

Rounding out the group as the only athlete from the women's team was Janaya Shorty, who finished 35th overall in the 200-meter dash after running a time of 23.95.
