LAWRENCE, Kan. – Four Titan student-athletes competed in the NCAA West Region Preliminary on Friday at the University of Kansas after Thursday's competition was suspended due to inclement weather.

Due to the weather, the NCAA eliminated the first round for all running events and are running only the quarter-final rounds to determine the 12 qualifiers that will advance to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oreg.

For the Titans, none of the four student-athletes that competed in today's events advanced and was the last competition in a Titan uniform for thrower Jessica Flores.

"We are really proud of Jessica and what she has done in her career," said head coach John Elders. "She has grown so much as a thrower."

Flores' final hammer throw as a Titan was 55.09m, finishing 38th overall.

Eli Penick, Darion Zimmerman and Nick Reynolds also competed today in the 100-meter dash, 400-meter run and 400-meter hurdles, respectively.

Although none of them advanced, all three will return tomorrow to compete in the 4x100 meter relay and 4x400 meter relay.

"The men had a great and valuable experience here at the NCAA's and are definitely in a position to come back here and compete next year," said Elders.

Tomorrow's events will feature Janaya Shorty running in the women's 200-meter dash, Aneesh Joshi in the men's 110-meter hurdles and both men's relay teams.

Running in the 4x100 meter relay for the Titans will be Penick, Luis Matos, Zimmerman and Nathan Bass, while Thomas Medina, Matos, Reynolds and Zimmerman will run in the 4x400 meter relay.
