FULLERTON, Calif. – Shelby Hernandez Jr. set a new school record in the 800-meter run as the Titans competed in the Michael Johnson Invitational, hosted by Baylor University in Waco, Tex. on Saturday.

The junior distance runner ran a time of 1:50.99, finishing 12th out of the group of 39, to break the previous school record of 1:51.15 set by Sean Krinik in 2013.

The men also saw success as sprinters Darion Zimmerman and Eli Penick finished in 1st and 2nd in their heat in the 200m with their times of 21.34 and 21.45, respectively. Their times placed them into 4th and 5th respectively in the Big West.

Nick Reynolds returned to the track this weekend to compete in the 110m hurdles and barely missed setting a new personal record, running a time of 14.61 and finishing 8th overall, while Aneesh Joshi won his heat in the 110m with his time of 14.39.

A quartet of Titan women set new personal records in their respective events, with Ty'Jalayah Robertson and Laura Hamann breaking into the top five in the Big West in the triple jump.

Robertson jumped 12.15m, good for 2nd in the Big West while Hamann jumped 11.93m, good for 5th in the Big West.

Alexandria Stewart set two personal records in the 200m and the 400m with her times of 25.06 and 57.44, respectively.

Rounding out the group was Stephanie Cortez, who set a personal record in the 1,500m run, running a time of 4:41.99 and finishing 13th overall.

The Titans return home to host their final meet of the season, a five-way meet between CSUN, Fresno State, NAU and UC Riverside on Saturday, Apr. 30 at Titan Track.
