Wilson Earns Award for Academic Excellence

FULLERTON, Calif. – For the third consecutive season, Cal State Fullerton senior sprinter Katie Wilson was selected to the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team for the 2014 season.

Including the Scholar Athletes of the Year, a total of 727 women from 193 institutions earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors for their combined academic and athletic accomplishments. To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.25. Wilson, majoring in Kinesiology, concluded her senior season well above that mark with a 3.55 GPA.  

The Ontario, Calif., native posted an impressive outdoor track and field season to conclude her Titan career recording 10 first-places finishes. She placed second and ran a personal best 400-meter in 53.64 at the Big West Championship in Davis, Calif. Wilson also won a combined six different meets in the 200 and 400-meter, with one of her most impressive highlights of the season coming at the Steve Scott Invitational in Irvine, Calif., sweeping both the 200 and 400-meter events.

For the second consecutive year, Wilson became one of five Titans to qualify for the NCAA West Regional Championships in Fayetteville, Ark. Competing on the opening day of the event at John McDonnell Field, Wilson led the way with her 40th place finish in the women's 400-meter dash prelims.

During the indoor track and field campaign, Wilson was one of the top sprinters for the Titans and was named to the MPSF All-Academic team. She held the top four times in the 400-meter dash while posting a personal best 54.84 at the University of New Mexico Cherry & Silver Collegiate in Albuquerque, N.M. Wilson also set a season-best 25.11 in the 20-meter to finish 23rd at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational in Lincoln, Neb.
