FULLERTON, Calif. - Sophomore Iesha Hamm of the Cal State Fullerton women's indoor track and field team competed at the Air Force Open on Friday in Colorado and tied her own school record in the high jump with a season-best clearance of 5-10.5 (1.79m).
Hamm took second place overall in the event but first among collegiate competitors with her clearance. She had an impressive series as she was clean through 1.79m, clearing the bar on her first attempt each time. Although she had some good tries at 5-11.5 (1.82m) she was unable to clear it.
"This was a great competition," assistant coach Cortney Stafford said. "It was a great apron for the athletes to compete on and the whole setup was great for the high jump. I feel good about it, I think she'll clear that (1.82m) bar next week."
The top 16 marks in the nation qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships and to put herself in the hunt to qualify, Hamm will have to at least clear 5-10.75 (1.80m) next week at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Championships. At that meet last year, Hamm originally set the school record with her 1.79m clearance and took fourth place overall.
