Titans Send Split Squads to Washington and New Mexico

FULLERTON, Calif. --- The Cal State Fullerton indoor track and field team will send split squads this weekend to the Don Kirby Invitational hosted by New Mexico as well as the Husky Classic hosted by the University of Washington. Both two-day events begin on Friday.

 

DON KIRBY INVITATIONAL FIELD: Forty programs will be competing at the Don Kirby Invitational including Long Beach State, CSUN, UC Davis, UC Irvine and UC Riverside. In addition, the No. 1 team in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division I women's rankings, Oregon, will be competing.

 

HUSKY CLASSIC FIELD: Along with athletes from nearly ever Pac-12 institution, the Husky Classic will also feature athletes hailing from Arkansas, Boise State, Colorado State, UCONN, Harvard, Houston, New Mexico, North Carolina, Northwestern, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Penn State, TCU, Tennessee, Texas, UTEP, and West Virginia.

NOTES FOR THE DON KIRBY INVITATIONAL

 

Long Jump: Freshman Naiah Boardingham has the top two jumps, including a new program indoor record, for the Titans this year. Kyra Anderson, Brooke Hardge and Jordan Agnew will also compete.

 

60 Meter Dash: Tatiana Bell, Jade Lewis and Alayah Byers have each posted sub-7.90 times this season. Brooke Hardge, Tammy Vien will also be competing along with Sarah Perez and Naiah Boardingham, who are each participating in the 60 meters for the first time this season.

 

60 Meter Hurdles: Kyra Anderson has posted the top three times for the Titans this year including advancing to the finals at the UW Invitational two weeks ago. Also participating:

Tammy Vien, Ifunanya Gwachan and Jordan Agnew.

 

Pole Vault: Arielle Bray's mark of 3.65 meters at the Lumberjack Team Challenge still leads the Titans this season. Shelby Noble, Alysse McMillen and Bryn Williamson will also compete.

 

800 Meters: Jordan Agnew will be just the second Titan to participate in the 800 meters this season.

 

400 Meters: Zuri Henderson's time of 56.96 from the UW Invitational is the best for Fullerton in 2017. Morgan Love and Kiana Clay round out the top three times this season.

 

4x400 Meter Relay: Morgan Love, Zuri Henderson, Tatiana Bell, Kiana Clay. Tatiana Bell joins the quartet for the first time in 2017.

 

NOTES FOR THE HUSKY CLASSIC

 

One Mile Run: Samantha Huerta and Sierra Ungerman will compete for the first time in 2017.

 

3,000 Meter Run: Emily Taylor last ran in the 3,000 meters at the 2016 MPSF Championships.

 

Distance Medley: 1) Arianna Fuentes, Chanel Rogers, Fanny Giron, Sierra Ungerman; 2) Stephanie Cortez, Mia Franco, Fanny Giron, Pamela Pelayo

 

LONGEST-TENURED COACH: As the 2017 season gets underway, cross country and track and field head coach John Elders enters his 29th season at the helm of each program making him the longest tenured head coach in the history of Cal State Fullerton.

 

Elders was tied with former fencing head coach Heizaburo Okawa (1982-2006) and former men's soccer coach Al Mistri (1981-2005) for 25 years of service at Fullerton. The Orange County native is coach of cross country, women's indoor track and field, and men's and women's outdoor track and field.

 

UP NEXT: Cal State Fullerton will compete at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships hosted at the University of Washington on Friday, Feb. 24-Saturday, Feb. 25.
