Fishel is certainly one of the greatest players to wear a Titans baseball uniform, and one of the greatest college baseball players of all-time for that matter. Fishel was an integral part of the 1984 National Championship team that defeated Texas for the Titans second national championship. Fishel was named the 1984 College World Series Most Outstanding Player for his key contributions. Fishel was outstanding throughout the entire 1984 season, racking up a team-high 116 hits with 25 doubles and 88 RBI. His 116 hits in 1984 is the most in a single season in the history of the program while his 88 RBI ranks third. 

Fishel has his name throughout record books after his incredible four-year career at Cal State Fullerton, ranking No. 1 in career games (295), career at-bats (1,114), hits (379), doubles (72) and RBI (281). Fishel's 295 games played and 1,114 career at-bats are also NCAA records. He also ranks third in the history of the program in home runs with 45 and stolen bases with 83. 

The Oakland Athletics drafted Fishel in the 19th round of the 1984 MLB Draft, however, Fishel decided to return to Cal State Fullerton for his senior year in 1985. Following his senior season, Fishel was drafted by the Houston Astros is the 9th round of the 1985 MLB Draft. Fishel made his MLB debut in 1988, becoming the 10th Titan at the time to make it to the big leagues
