IRVINE, Calif. — Bianca Martinez was named to the 2022 Women's Volleyball Big West All-Freshman Team while Elizabeth Schuster and Danielle Jefferies were selected as All-Conference Honorable Mentions, the conference announced Wednesday.
Martinez made an immediate impact at the middle blocker position for the Titans, playing in all 28 matches and racking up 95 total blocks. She ranked 12th in The Big West with a 0.9 blocks-per-set average and finished 17th in the conference with a .246 hitting percentage on 168 total kills, averaging 1.58 kills per set. Martinez is the first Titan to be named to the All-Big West Freshman Team since Julia Crawford in 2019.
Jefferies had a career year for Fullerton, posting 268 total kills and a 2.55 kills-per-set average playing primarily on the front row. She hit at a .226 clip on the season, good for 19th in the conference. Jefferies also had 50 total blocks (0.48 per set) and 48 digs (0.46 per set) to go with five total service aces.
Schuster played a significant role in setting up Martinez and Jefferies throughout the season. The senior setter led the team with 980 total assists (9.16 per set), ranking fifth in The Big West. Schuster also added 282 digs (2.64 per set) and 64 kills on a .209 clip to go with 26 total blocks. She was named Big West Setter of the Week earlier this season as well as an All-Conference Honorable Mention at the conclusion of last season.
The Titans finished the season with a 13-15 overall record, garnering their most wins since the 2012 campaign. Fullerton went 7-13 in Big West play on the year.
