ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Cal State Fullerton Women's Volleyball dropped its second game of the day at the Lobo Invitational to New Mexico 3-1 Friday night at The Pit.
Fullerton played the Lobos tight in the first set but ultimately came up short, dropping set one by a score of 25-21. The Titans quickly responded in the second set. After trailing by four points the Titans rallied to tie the game at 10-10 on a Lyla Traylor kill.
Traylor led the team with 15 kills, one short of tying her career-high. Traylor had 14 digs on the defensive end for her first double-double of the season.
New Mexico jumped out to an early lead in the third set that the Titans were not able to overcome, losing 25-17. The Titans gave it their all in the fourth to force a decisive fifth set but the Lobos closed it out late, 27-25.
Freshman Bianca Martinez had a strong showing for the Titans, recording seven kills on just 14 attempts for an impressive .500 attacking percentage. Fellow freshman Lola Fonua had a good outing in limited playing time as she finished the match with five kills on six attempts. Elizabeth Schuster had a game-high 44 assists to go along with 13 digs.
The Titans are back on the road next week to face Utah Tech Friday and Southern Utah on Saturday. First serve is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. PT at Utah Tech and 1:00 p.m. PT at Southern Utah.
