WVB Battles but Falls in Five Sets to No. 11 Hawaii

HONOLULU, Hawaii - Cal State Fullerton battled, but came up just short as they fell in five sets (25-22, 25-20, 23-25, 15-25, 7-15) to No. 11 Hawaii. The Titans move to 8-7 on the season and 0-4 in conference play.

Julia Crawford had another great performance posting her seventh double-double of the season with 20 kills and 15 digs. Makenzi Abelman also posted a double-double with 36 assists and 15 digs.Tyler Fezzey recorded her third match in double-figures with 12 kills. Defensively, Savahna Costello posted a match-high 30 digs while Neena Dimas was right behind her with 27 digs.

The Titans came out on fire with a 30.4% hit percentage, shocking the Rainbow Wahine with a 25-22 victory in the first set. It marks the first set win over UH since 2012.

Fullerton fell behind early in the second set, trailing 6-11, but a massive 8-0 scoring run put them in front. From there, they held onto the lead coming out with a 25-20 set victory.

Looking for a sweep, the Titans jumped out to an early lead in the third set. However, the Rainbow Wahine would battle back to win their first set, 25-23.

Hawaii controlled the fourth set handedly with a 25-15 win to force a fifth and deciding set.

Fullerton put the first point on the board in the final set, but UH quickly took over and ended the match with a 15-9 fifth set victory.

Cal State Fullerton is back in action next weekend as they head to UC Irvine for a match with the Anteaters on Saturday, October 12.
